Subtitles or no subtitles?

The eternal debate for English learners! 🍿🀯

Series with subtitles or "raw" (without anything) to improve your English? πŸ€”

Let's start with the non-negotiable base: it must ALWAYS be in the Original Version (O.V.). Dubbing is forbidden here.

🚫 But what do we do with those little letters at the bottom?

I've seen pitched battles over this. Here is my quick analysis so you can pick your poison:

πŸ“Ί OPTION A: WITH SUBTITLES (in English, of course!)

βœ… Pros:

  1. You catch vocabulary: You see how those weird words they mumble are actually spelled. πŸ“

  2. Less frustration: You follow the plot even if the accent is impossible (I'm looking at you, Peaky Blinders). πŸ˜…

❌ Cons:

  1. Your brain is lazy: If there is text, your brain prefers READING over LISTENING. In the end, you practice more reading than listening. πŸ‘€

  2. The crutch: You get used to having that help, and people in real life don't have subtitles floating under their chins.

πŸ“Ί OPTION B: WITHOUT SUBTITLES (Going wild)

βœ… Pros:

  1. Real training: It's CrossFit for your ears. It forces you to concentrate 200%. πŸ’ͺ🎧

  2. Real context: You learn to deduce meaning from tone of voice, acting, and the situation, just like in a real conversation.

❌ Cons:

  1. Panic mode: At first, you might feel like you understand NOTHING and want to throw the TV out the window. 🀯

  2. Missing details: Nuances, jokes, and specific vocabulary will escape you if your level isn't very high yet.

And now it's your turn to commit:

Which 'team' are you on? Team Subtitles πŸ“œ or Team "Going Wild" πŸ‘‚?

🎬 ATTENTION, SPOILER ALERT! 🎬

Precisely next week, in my group speaking classes, the main topic will be MOVIES AND SERIES. We are going to debate, recommend, and use on-screen vocabulary.

If you want to come and truly practice (because you learn to speak by speaking), I have an irresistible proposal:

Reply to this email with the word SERIES down below.

I'll reach out via email with the link, and if you sign up, you'll get 50% OFF your first month. 🎁πŸ”₯

See you there!
